MacDonald International is dedicated to assessing and developing methods to control or minimise the harmful effects of human activity on the environment. It is fundamental that the impact on the environment is taken into consideration when development projects are carried out. This ensures the sustainability of our way of life and the surrounding natural environment.

MacDonald International understands the importance of taking the right steps to ensure minimal impact is sustained during the development process, and believes that responsible management of environmental resources is the only way to move forward into the future.

Environmental Services we offer include:

(DA) Basix Certificates
The purpose of the Building and Sustainability Index (BASIX) Certificate is to ensure homes are designed to use less potable water and emit fewer greenhouse gas emissions. It is required at the development application stage for all new residential dwellings, as well as any alterations or additions to residential dwellings, in New South Wales.

(DA) Bushfire risk assessments and hazard reduction
For developments within bushfire prone areas, a bushfire risk assessment may be needed with the subdivision and building development application stage or with the construction certificate. They are used to improve the protection of life, property and the environment from bushfires. Depending on the findings from the assessment, hazard reduction may also need to be carried out.

(DA) Onsite sewage assessments
Onsite sewage assessments are required in unsewered areas when treated sewerage is being pumped out onto the land. They are used to ensure the protection of surrounding natural resources and community.

Storm water management plans
For developments where storm water becomes contaminated, before it enters the drain, a management plan may be required. This may involve providing flow paths and filtering processes for rainwater. This ensures that only suitable water travels from the street drains to the oceans.

Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE)
A Statement of Environmental Effects is a report presenting the likely impacts of a proposed development and an explanation of how the impacts will be minimised. An SEE must be lodged with each development application (DA).

Reviews of Environmental Factors (REF)
REFs are documents that identify and evaluate the impacts of an activity to decide if the impacts are likely to significantly affect the environment. If the impacts are not considered to be significant, then an EIS is not required.

Species Impact Statements (SIS)
Species Impact Statements must be prepared or included in the Environmental Impact Statement if a development is likely to have a significant effect on a critical habitat or on a threatened species, population or ecological community and their habitats.

Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)
Environmental Impact Statements are required for developments that are likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

Baseline data collection
This involves research and field studies to collect data. This can include sediment data, water data, macro-invertebrate data, noise data, vegetation data and so on.

Water analysis
Water analysis services involve the collection of water data from the field over time, as well as the analysis of the data collected.

Traffic Impact Statements
Traffic Impact Studies involve the collection of data using surveys, as well as, a detailed report involving the generation and impact off traffic from certain activities.

Asbestos detection and removal
Older developments often contain asbestos filled products. The detection and safe removal of these products is vital to community health.

Environmental estimating
Estimation for different environmental jobs can be carried out by MacDonald International using different software products and knowledge from both engineers and environmental scientists.

Costing, Programming and Project Management of environmental projects
Large environmental projects often require costing, programming and project management services to be provided by external companies. MacDonald International has access to several software products to assist in this service.

Monitoring for construction projects
Pollution monitoring (for noise, air, light etc.) is often required during the construction of developments in order to determine and manage the effect the pollution is having on the environment.

Noise and Air pollution
Noise and air pollution assessments are often required for larger developments and activities, especially if they are in close proximity to other developments.

Aboriginal, archaeological and Cultural Heritage studies
Developments in archaeological, Aboriginal or culturally significant areas require studies to assess the impact the development will have.
